YoYoFriends | Sunwing

Bimetal has always been the strength of yoyofriends, and Project Sunwing is no exception

The idea for this yoyo emerged in mid-2023, in collaboration with papercut, for the 2024 anniversary edition. Various types of bimetal yoyos were explored, leading to the mid-ring design, something they had never used before

The inspiration came from the Vulture, with the idea that a mid-ring yoyo could have a similar weight distribution to an inner-ring yoyo. They started with the mid-weight and shape of the Vulture, but realized that its pure H-shape was too polarizing. Instead, they opted for a slightly modified V-shape with a hint of H, creating a smooth playing experience

The first prototype felt great, but they wanted more acceleration and stability. By adjusting the stainless steel rings further outward and inward, they significantly increased the rim weight. The result was a yoyo with more speed, power, and stability, while maintaining the fluid feel of a mid-ring design. This quickly became Adam Criser's favorite yoyo, leading to its official production

The name "Sunwing" was ultimately chosen, partially inspired by the game Horizon Forbidden West, fitting perfectly within the bird-themed lineup
